Gender reveal ideas: Pregnant mom celebrating pregnancy

Would-be parents who can't wait to find out if they're having a boy or a girl do not have to wait too long. An ultrasound procedure carried out between the 18th and 22nd week of pregnancy can already give a more or less accurate picture of the baby’s gender1. This has led to a boom in gender reveal ideas and  parties, with celebrities taking to social media platforms to tell the world if their baby is a boy or girl2.

Jenna Myers Karvunidis herself, the inventor of gender reveal ideas and  parties, was surprised at how far her idea has gone3. She wrote on Facebook, “I've felt a lot of mixed feelings about my random contribution to the culture. It just exploded into crazy after that.”

You may not be a celebrity, but you can come up with fun ideas for gender reveal parties where you and your loved ones can gather to celebrate the arrival of your bundle of joy. These gender reveal ideas are also great moments to share on your social media pages with your friends and family.

Gender Reveal Ideas
You can choose from any of these gender reveal ideas4:

  • The He-R-She Bar
Take these popular chocolate bars and highlight the words “She” in pink and “He” in blue. Have as many “She” chocolate bars as the number of guests if the baby is a girl. Do the same thing if it's a boy. This gender reveal idea involves distributing chocolate bars with the “She” highlight if your baby is a girl, and the one with the “He” highlight for a boy. Pretty fun addition to our list of gender reveal ideas , no?

  • Baby balloons
Put pink or baby helium balloons in a box. Then release the pink or blue balloons when you're ready to put your gender reveal idea to work.
Another version of the balloon reveal requires filling an empty balloon with pink or blue confetti before pumping air in it. Pop the balloon with the suitable confetti when you're ready to reveal the gender of the baby at the gender reveal parties. We know! That’s why it’s part of our list of gender reveal ideas.

  • Surprise unwrapped
Put a baby girl or boy's outfit or accessories - bibs, booties, bonnet, etc. - in a box. Wrap it in a gender-neutral color like green. Watch as your family and friends rejoice while you unwrap the box and reveal if the next member of the family is a boy or a girl.

  • Cake magic5
Out of many gender reveal ideas out there, you’ve probably heard of this one.  Scatter pink or blue candles or icing all over the cake to announce your baby's gender. But keep everything under wraps until you're ready to put your gender reveal idea to work.
You may also insert a pink or blue heart inside the cake or cupcake. Then, cut the cake in half to reveal your baby's gender amid roars of approval from family and friends.

  • Piñatas and confetti
As part of this item in our list of gender reveal ideas,  stuff a piñata with pink or blue confetti. Blindfold each guest and let him or her take turns hitting the piñata. At such gender reveal parties, you can enjoy the moment as guests urge the one holding the bat to turn left or right to hit the piñata. Pink or blue confetti, which reveals the baby's gender, will rain down on the guest who breaks the piñata.

  • Prize catch
To make things more exciting at gender reveal parties, label a box or hat “boy” or “girl.” Ask each guest to write their names on little pieces of paper and drop them on the box or hat which represents their guess of the baby's gender. Close your eyes and pull out a name from the appropriate hat or box. The guest whose name is on the piece of paper goes home with a prize. This has to be a favourite in our list of gender reveal ideas!

  • Personalized Keepsakes
Give out personalized souvenirs to mark the occasion. An older sibling can get a shirt that says, "I'm having a baby sister!" This is also a good way of making the older one more involved in the coming family event, and preventing sibling rivalry.
Guests can go home with slices of cake icings that say, “Oh, boy!” if the baby is a boy.
Let your pet wear a pink or blue sign that says, "I'm going to have a new human!" We’ll have to admit, this definitely stands out in our list of gender reveal ideas.

  • Color-coded décor
Lay a blue or pink tablecloth on your dining table. Festoon chairs with blue or pink bows. Put up pink or blue buntings. You and your family members may wear blue or pink clothes.

Gender reveal ideas for parties generate fun moments with family and friends. Make them worth yours and everyone's while by being as creative as you can be. It doesn’t have to be over-the-top.
